‘They’re not fans’: Martin Freeman hits back at Sherlock Twitter trolls who targeted Amanda Abbington

Martin Freeman has blasted Twitter users who trolled his other half Amanda Abbington after she joined the third series of Sherlock.

Abbington will be playing Mary Morstan in the new series, who ends up marrying John Watson – played by Freeman.

In an interview with Time Out, the actor slammed people tweeting negative comments to his partner as ‘ridiculous’.

‘To me, they’re not fans of the show – they’re fans of a show going on their heads’ he said.

‘Obviously I love Amanda and I want everyone to react positively to her; she plays a fantastic character and brings a hell of a lot to the third series.’

When asked whether there would be a fourth series on the way, Martin said that Sherlockians could ‘safely assume’ there will be more episodes.

Sherlock returns to our screens on New Year’s Day at 9pm, with series three opener The Empty Hearse.
